Privacy Policy

The short version

Players never make an account. A game, and every team name and answer in it, is deleted 24 hours after it's created. Hosts sign in with an email address so they can come back to their games. We don't sell anything about you and we don't send marketing email.

If you play

• What we keep: the team name you type, the answers your team gives, and your score. The host's screen and the other teams can see your team name and score.
• On your device: a random team token saved in your browser, so you can drop back into the game if your phone reloads, and the last team name you used so you don't have to type it again.
• How long: the game and everything in it is deleted 24 hours after the host created it. The public demo game clears itself and starts over after every round of play.
• What we don't ask for: no account, no email, no phone number, no location.

If you host

• Your email address, used only to send you sign-in links. Your first sign-in creates your account.
• Sign-in links and sessions, stored only as one-way hashes. A sign-in link works once and expires after 15 minutes. Signing in sets a cookie called ts_session that keeps you signed in for up to 90 days, or until you sign out.
• Your games: the code, the name you gave the night, and the key that lets you run it. We use this for your My games list and remove it a week after the game expires.
• Where you're playing: the city and state you enter in setup, which appear with your game on the global leaderboard. To save you typing, the setup page suggests a city and state based on your internet connection, using Cloudflare's location estimate. Nothing is stored unless you create the game.
• How long: your account stays until you delete it. You can do that yourself from the My games page, which removes your email, your sessions, and your list of games.

The global leaderboard

When a game finishes, the top five teams can be posted to a public leaderboard on the home page. Each entry shows the team name, score, number of questions, and the city and state of the game. It only happens when the host leaves the leaderboard option switched on, the game had at least two teams and eight questions, and the host didn't use their own questions. Demo games never count. Entries stay up so the all time board keeps working. If you'd like an entry removed, email us and we'll take it down.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people use. It sets cookies and sends information about your visit, such as pages viewed and a rough location, to Google. You can read how Google uses this data, or block it with a browser setting or extension. We don't use it to identify you, and it isn't used for advertising.

Who else is involved

• Cloudflare hosts the site, stores games, accounts and the leaderboard, and sends the sign-in emails.
• Google provides Google Analytics and the web fonts.

We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

Kids

Trivia Showdown is made for group games at bars, parties, and events. Hosts should be 13 or older. Players don't give us anything but a team name.
